Six Olney residents and one Newcastle resident made plea agreements with the 90th Judicial District Court in April.

A Young County grand jury this month no-billed the case of an inmate death that occurred in March 2023 at the Young County Jail. The determination was made following the completion of an investigation from the Texas Department of Public Safety Texas Rangers. Brandon Taylor, 31, of Mineral Wells, was found unresponsive in an administrative segregation cell March 21, 2023.

Young County residents have less than two weeks left to register to vote in the March primaries. National, state and local seats are up for election during the primaries. The primary election will be March 5, 2024, with early voting Feb. 20, 2024 through March 1, 2024. The last day to register to vote will be Feb. 5, 2024 and the last day to apply for a ballot by mail will be Feb. 23, 2024. Filing for seats open in the March primary election ended Monday in Young County. Young County Sheriff and Young County Precinct 3 Commissioner had more than one candidate file for the positions. National, state and local seats are up for election during the primaries. The first day to file for an office up for election was Saturday, Nov. 11. The deadline to file for primary candidates was 6 p.m. Monday, Dec. 11.

Allen Lee Dixon pleaded guilty Monday to two felony charges of indecency with a child by sexual contact. As part of a plea agreement, he was arrested and sentenced to 180 days in the Young County Jail and 10 years deferred adjudication community supervision. The charges stem from allegations made against Dixon while he was operating Brothers Smokehouse, a former restaurant in Graham which he co-owned. The offenses took place around May 1, 2020 and Nov. 1, 2021, with victims under the age of 18.

An Olney man pleaded guilty to four charges this week and was sentenced to 25 years in prison. Derrick Rockenbaugh, 37, was involved in a foot pursuit in April which led to a lockdown of Olney ISD. Rockenbaugh accepted a plea Tuesday, Aug. 22 from 90th Judicial District Attorney Dee Peavy and Assistant District Attorney Phillip Gregory.
