The Department of Education (DepEd) recognized around 173 partner organizations including nonprofit, volunteer-powered group, I am MAD (Making A Difference) Volunteers Inc., for their support and intervention in the country's basic education under its “Matatag” Agenda on February 20, 2024 at GSIS Theater, Pasay City.

DepEd required all schools to shift to full face-to-face classes in November after two years of distance learning with limited exceptions. At least 28 million students enrolled for the school year 2022-2023.

After the Commission on Human Rights found employment and skill issues among K to 12 graduates, the government’s sole body tasked with a top-to-bottom review of the education sector said that it will prioritize reviewing the senior high school curriculum.

Reminding DepEd of the “endless” tasks teachers take during vacations, such as handling early enrollment and attending required training sessions, ASSERT Secretary-General Fidel Fababier said that teachers are not simply "paid to rest” between school years. 

Most teachers report that students are struggling to concentrate in class and are not showing up to school due to "intolerable" heat in classrooms, a survey conducted by the country’s largest organization of teachers showed.

More than a quarter of the students at a school in North Cotabato have been absent from class after shooting incidents near campus left one schoolmate dead and several others injured.

Figures presented by the Department of Education during a Senate hearing on Tuesday did not include disaggregated data for students with disabilities, obscuring the extent to which an already marginalized group of students experience harassment and discrimination in schools.
