People who live on the Central Coast are being urged by both the state and local Offices of Emergency Services (OES) to take part in Earthquake Preparedness Month.

The 'MyShake' app works thanks to ground motion sensors all over California. The amount of heads up you get depends on your distance to the quake's epicenter.

The California Office of Emergency Services invited people to test out their earthquake simulator, a machine that mimics the shaking of a magnitude 7.0 earthquake.
