Except for getting a grueling stem cell transplant treatment, Fleming took little time off during her cancer battle to lead the Fargo public health response to the pandemic.

“My goal when I came here was to make sure that when I left it was better than when I came,” Desi Fleming told The Forum. “I do feel that I’ve accomplished that and that’s what I’m proud of.”

"I have felt so very fortunate to be a part of this community and -- within my role as a nurse and a leader -- to be able to make an impact on the health of many lives," Desi Fleming wrote.

During a city finance committee meeting, Fargo Cass Public Health received state funding to combat addictions and federal funds to to stabilize its workforce.

Elected Fargo officials, along with developer Kilbourne Group, met privately with the Salvation Army to propose they move out of their historic headquarters to a new location.

Fargo Cass Public Health has partnered with CredibleMind to offer online mental health resources to its residents.
