The city council and two local school boards sat down for a rare joint meeting on Monday, Sept. 18, as the three entities try to hash out a long-term agreement to divvy up tens of millions of dollars in annual tax revenue.

The Mountain View Whisman school board voted at a Thursday, Sept. 7, meeting to fence off portions of Monta Loma Elementary School, but not without disagreements among board members about the three year process that led them there.

The district is on the precipice of making a formal decision to fence off part of Monta Loma after three years of divisive debate in the community.

As more housing gets built locally, the Mountain View Whisman School District is considering redrawing school attendance boundaries to spread out the new students who are expected to move into the area.

Action Day Primary Plus, which rents part of the former Cooper School site from the Mountain View Whisman School District, is proposing to grow its footprint, adding new buildings and expanding its parking lot.

It wasnt picking who will lead the school board that caused controversy, but rather deciding who will be second in command, revealing internal tensions on the board and disagreements over how leadership should be selected.

In Mountain View, 2022 was about getting back to business on some of the pre-pandemic issues -- the housing crisis, homelessness and income disparities -- that were only exacerbated and magnified during the previous two years.

Thida Cornes has far out-raised the other five candidates vying for three seats on the Mountain View Los Altos Union High School Districts board this November, as well as rolling over money from her prior city council campaign.
