Devon Larabie pleaded guilty on Tuesday to second degree murder for his role in the 2020 death of 22-year-old Breanna Menacho in Yellowknife.

An N.W.T. court is considering adding a sixth lawyer to help represent Devon Larabie, who's facing a charge of second-degree murder and has already fired three defence lawyers. 

A Crown lawyer in the N.W.T. is applying to have a shadow lawyer appointed in the trial of Devon Larabie. That way, the trial can proceed even if he fires his fourth lawyer on the case.

A trial date has now been set for a man accused of murdering a Yellowknife woman in May of 2020. Devon Larabie's trial will begin Nov. 14 in the N.W.T. Supreme Court.

Devon Larabie will have his pick from a panel of three lawyers to represent him after he fired three others. He is accused of murdering a 22-year-old woman in Yellowknife in May 2020.

After firing his third and final lawyer provided by legal aid in September, Devon Larabie's legal representation will likely be covered by the federal government.

Devon Larabie must make an appeal if he wants a new legal aid lawyer, and he has 30 days to do so.

According to court documents, the prosecutor was caught off-guard by the move. He noted witnesses and family members had already booked travel to Yellowknife for the trial, which has been scheduled for months.

The trial of a 29-year-old man accused of robbing a Yellowknife convenience store with a knife in March of 2020 began Thursday.
