of six of the seven victims killed in the shooting so far. two of them were a couple. the mccarthys there, whose toddler found alive underneath the father s body. once the shooting stopped. cnn s josh campbell is outside of the lake county courthouse where that bail hearing will take place just a short time from now. what more do we know about these warning signs that have been detailed in his past and about the charges he s now facing? reporter: good morning. we learned quite a bit about this investigation in the last 24 hours. prosecutors now formally charged the shooting suspect with seven counts of first-degree murder. one count of each of those victims killed during that parade attack. we re also learning that the weapons that were purchased here were purchased legally. authorities say over the course of the year, he purchased five weapons including one assault-style rifle that was allegedly used in this attack and police releasing information about the planning that

address making a new plea yet again for gun action. telling congress in the wake of more mass shootings, enough is enough. more kids and on duty cops killed by guns. more kids than soldiers killed by guns. for god s sake, how much more carnage are we willing to accept? how many more innocent american lives must be taken before we say enough? enough. this time we have to take the time to do something. this time, it is time for the senate to do something. among the president s demands to congress, either ban assault weapons or raise the minimum purchase age to 21 years old. fact is, many of these proposals have no realistic chance of passage. there is little to no gop support for them. that s exactly right. even after what happened this week, and last. the president s speech comes as democrats on a house committee did pass a string of proposals and got in a fiery debate with a republican colleague, small bipartisan group of senators is still working behind the scenes, but
everyone. this morning, there are now hard questions for authorities about the timeline of events and the police response, specifically why did they wait so long to go into the school? officials say the gunman was on school grounds for up to an hour before police were able to breach the classroom, stop the killing and neutralize, kill, the gunman. according to the washington post, parents who rushed to the scene heard gunfire inside the school, they begged officers to charge into the building. there was families trying to get in here, they were getting in here, they were getting into the school. fathers breaking out windows, pulling kids out of the windows. this morning, we have new video that shows the gunman entering a door at the school. authorities say the suspect was confronted by an officer as he made his way into the building. they say he dropped a bag full of ammunition before he got inside. also cnn has exclusively obtained a series of chilling text message
thing, jim, that is going to address this. i think that s one of the arguments being made by people saying, well, what you re doing in rhode island is not going to solve the problem. of course it is not. but it does reduce the risk. mental health issues, we know, reduce the risk. maybe that s the common bond we find between the two sides of this argument that we can, you know, make sure that we regulate the way that the guns are sold, and they re owned and as well as bring in the mental health aspect into the mix. but, do you when we speak to mental health experts, they ll tell us it a small percentage of gun crimes committed by people with diagnosable mental illness, perhaps 5% that seems to be the focus of this new legislation. it is often all you hear from republican lawmakers when it comes to gun issues. is that issue overemphasized in terms of response to gun violence in this country? as i said, i think that we have to reduce our risk everywhere we can.
