A group of Diepsloot residents protested against the high levels of crime in the suburb on Friday morning. They also broke down and burnt shacks which they believed were harbouring criminals.

Gauteng premier Panyaza Lesufi said the 6,000 wardens are permanently employed to grow a safer Gauteng and combat crime.

"Can we for once put our differences aside and attend to what is a problem and forget that there are elections coming?” said Mbalula.

Almost 6 000 force multipliers have been deployed to monitor and protect townships, informal settlements and hostels, CBDs and businesses.

Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi yesterday called on 2 000 newly trained crime prevention wardens to “shoot when the enemy shoots at you”.

Yesterday, the premier presided over the walkout parade of 1 500 new wardens at an event held at Tsakane Stadium in Ekurhuleni.

Cholera cases have been reported in five of South Africa's nine provinces, according to the Department of Health. 

Health services regulator the office of health standards compliance has urged national and provincial health departments to put proper measures in place at hospitals to contain the cholera outbreak.

The waterbourne disease is spread by drinking water or eating food that is infected with the bacteria.-Health Department

“Whilst the OHSC acknowledges the enormous strain put by the outbreak of cholera on the health system and its resources, it is expected that the provision of quality health remains of the highest standard,” Mahlakanya said.
