Since this column aims to highlight aspects of culture of which readers may be unaware, it tends to avoid becoming too philosophical. However, having just read David Stubbs’s recent study Different Times: A History of British Comedy, I feel a little philosophy is required on the subject of British humour.

The biennial Princeton Poetry Festival, organized by Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Paul Muldoon, returns with a full day of readings, panel discussions and a lecture featuring poets from around the world: Mei-mei Berssenbrugge, Joyelle McSweeney, Valzhyna Mort, John Okrent, Roger Reeves, Padraig Regan, Philip Schultz, and Luci Tapahonso. Day-long festival runs 10:30 AM – 5:30 PM. Free and open to public; no tickets required.
