Too scared to take the stand in a trial involving two suspected gang members, a crucial witness for the defence failed to turn up for court on Wednesday.

One of two alleged members of the Satan Defenders gang, accused of murder and the attempted murder of a four-month-old baby boy, brought an application to the Gqeberha high court on Thursday asking for the case against him to be withdrawn.

The credibility of a state witness was called into question on Tuesday by the defence attorney for one of two men accused of murder after he failed to elaborate on statements made in his testimony.

A self-confessed former gang member told the Gqeberha high court on Monday that he had heard at least eight shots being fired inside the house where a Bloemendal man was murdered.
