Workers says they have never seen such a demand in the past
Insaf Sibil, a 23-year-old youth from Chakkumkadavu in Kozhikode, is by now inured to the sight of body bags and workers clad in PPE kits cremating the mortal remains of COVID-19 patients. He is part of the city’s trained volunteer group that has come to the aid of the city Corporation at a time when crematoriums are struggling to handle the increasing number of deaths caused by the second wave of the pandemic.
The district has reported one death and widespread damage in the heavy thunderstorms and strong winds that lashed the region on Tuesday.The deceased was identified as Satheesh, 17, of Pazhanada, Anchu

The State capital bid adieu to veteran Communist leader K.R. Gouri as her mortal remains were brought to the Ayyankali Hall for public homage on Tuesday.
The body was brought to the hall around 10.45 am after completing formalities at the private hospital where she breathed her last.
Considering the wide popularity and immense respect enjoyed by the firebrand leader, the roads leading to the venue would witnessed uncontrollable rush under normal circumstance.
Hospital charging over ₹4lakh as COVID-19 treatment charges
District Collector Navjot Khosa on Sunday issued show-cause notice to a private hospital in Kattakada for withholding a dead body over the non-payment of COVID-19 treatment dues.
According to an official release, the hospital, Neyyar Medicity, had refused to release the body of a 46-year-old man who died of COVID-19 allegedly due to the inability of his family to pay the bill amount of ₹4,44,808.
Despite the intervention of the officials concerned, the hospital stood their ground.
The relatives of the deceased also raised allegations that they were not provided clarity regarding the expenses as well as the patient’s condition during treatment.
