Nearly five months after the original Old South restaurant was destroyed in a fire, the owners have opened a new location in Russellville.

Since the Old South reopened to the public last week, the restaurant and its staff have been overwhelmed, co-owner Zach Summitt said Thursday.

Work began Friday on tearing down the Old South restaurant building on East Main Street in Russellville.

The long story of a Hopkinsville building seems likely to be coming to an end very soon. In fact, a historian tells us, he believes it could be the single oldest building in the city.

It’s not just a building that has made The Old South Restaurant what it is, but most importantly the people who have eaten there for decades.
