Alachua County reported one of its highest single-day totals for new COVID-19 cases in Wednesday’s update from the state health department.  The county reported 219 new cases. The last time it came so close with a single-day total was Sept. 12, when 224 new cases were reported a surge following the return of college students to Gainesville for the start of the fall semester. Four more Alachua County residents have died from the coronavirus as of Monday’s update from the state health department.  The residents were not associated with long-term care facilities, but additional information about those who died was not available.  A total of 128 residents have now died from the coronavirus, including at least 62 men and 43 women who ranged in age from 28 to 100.
