supreme court to block the committee s access to documents that were relevant and some of them from the day, january 6. do you believe that this is an issue that the court should take up? well it is unfortunate that had to get to the courts when you have a former president of the united states who doesn t want to respond to lawmaker subpoenas and hide information that the public and the congress has a right and an obligation to be able to review. it said a lot about the former president and about what they have to hide and what they are nervous about the public and congress seeing. but what is at stake here is making sure that the legislative branch that congress is a co- co-equal branch to the executive branch. that is what the founders envisions and that what the constitution states and with the document requests, will congress be respected in the way that our constitution demands it be. it is unfortunate that that is
that call happens. that s the kind of news we like in a holiday week, thank you so much. thanks, alison. the house committee investigating the january 6th attack reaching an agreement with the white house to defer some document requests. the biden administration raised questions about some of the material that the committee requested that didn t involve the events of january 6th. joining me now is joyce vance, an nbc news legal analyst, i m thrilled to see you today. he amounted not to invoke presidential privilege for some of this, what is your biggest take away from this new move? there is nothing to be concerned with here. this doesn t seem to be a walk back of the president s commitment to letting the american public through this house committee have full access to documents about january 6th.
give me the facts. give me the time line and give me a jury. congressman, that is she lays out an incredible set of things that the committee i hope they are already doing. but once the benefit of a time like this? a time line like this? a couple things. i have great respect for the former senator. and much of what she described the impeachment trial ultimately did glean for the american people. the team of house managers did much of that work. as she describes in compiling a time line. there are missing pieces. i suspect the committee is doing what she has described. putting together obviously by virtue of the document requests. and the testimony they have gathered so far. putting together the missing pieces so the american public and congress can better understand previcely what happened on the day. and obviously the inaction of the president.
there is no way to know how the courts are going to handle this from here on out, particularly if this goes to the supreme court. would it be a critical factor for your investigation if ultimately, you weren t able to get these trump white house records? we ve said all along that we want to tell the full and complete story. in order to do that, we are going to need documents were going to need interviews and so clearly that is what is helpful about the document requests. and national archives requests, so we are pleased at the time when a court is addressing this and the team here will be arguing that before the court appeals tomorrow. so, we are excited to go to that next step but it s helpful. an important to the work that we need to have those documents. we ve already seen the justice department charge steve bannon for content, for his refusal to hand over documents and testify to your investigation. it looks like there is a
