believes it s critical on day one. that s where we begin. we would like the public to be able to see and understand what it was like to be on the frontlines that day and how much these brave officers risked their lives to save ours. they were beat with flag poles. they were beaten with fire extinguishers and sprayed with bear spray. just the torment they went through. how much they felt in fear of their lives. that s the challenge for the democrats. is it not? to try to say this is a fact-finding mission. it s not about anybody s party label and try to move it out of the box on day one? exactly. and just because the republicans will try to paint this as partisan, a good swath of the american people might not accept what comes out, that doesn t mean there won t be new information or a visceral reaction. there s ongoing investigations by the fbi. those things are happening behind to a great extent closed doors. this is going to be public for
here s one town that s doing something radical. stockton on tees is planning to demolish a third of its high street. this huge shopping mall. it was built in the 70s an era when councils were falling over themselves to attract big retail development. the local authority has now bought it to knock it down, creating a new riverside park, to make stockton a greener, nicer place to be. high streets can t survive on retail alone. that doesn t mean there won t be any retail. i know some people are worried we re going to knock all the shops down. retail is very important, but we need to consolidate that retail, to meet the demand. this makeover s not an easy sell. what do you want from your high street? well, more shops. more shops. why have 50 empty properties? why not open it out and change it, so more people can use it? covid is creating opportunities to rethink our high streets,
says if you re vaccinated, we re going to give you stuff. you ve got another lottery going on and it s the death had lottery. reporter: governors, both republican and democrat, coming out, saying it s important to get vaccinated. it s a patriotic thing to do, that s what president biden said and the president s message ashley and carley seems to be working. a new poll out shows there s an approval rating for president biden right now, 62% approving of his handling of the pandemic, 31% disapproving. that s from the washington post. meanwhile, as i said, the vaccination goal on july 4th has come and gone. the white house says there will be more goals, there is more time and just because july 4th is over, it doesn t mean there won t be more goals in the future, to see as many people vaccinated as possible. back to you. david spunt live for us in wash tonight david, thanks. did you hear about this? the ocean city mayor canceled independence day shows after
minutes. you saw house speaker nancy pelosi wrapping up the debate on the house floor a few minutes ago. it will be interesting to see how this vote plays out today. it will pass. there s no concern about it passing. because it s a house only action, it does not require the approval of the senate. that will allow the house speaker to begin the process of forming the collect committee right away. unlike the independent bipartisan commission we saw quite a few republicans vote for. we don t expect nearly that much support from republicans this time around. some of those key players like the ranking member on the homeland security committee who has been very critical of former president president trump, he said this select committee does not accomplish the goals he hoped the independent bipartisan committee will do. that doesn t mean there won t be some republicans that vote for it. we re watching to see what liz chaney will vote for or adam
interpretation, not worry about the politics. that doesn t mean there won t be a political result for them down the road zp. david, you have such a unique perspective. you yourself switched party. what advice would you give republicans who may be on the fence here? yeah, look, i left on my personal conviction. and i hammered my former colleagues on the divisions they re making. i don t understand their convictions in this matter. because it is clear that the president did wrong. i find myself in a single digit percentage of the united states of america that both supported the impeachment of bill clinton and support the impeachment of donald trump. i am curious why more of my fellow republicans haven t found what the president did wrong. but what concerns me the most when you hear mitch mcconnell and lindsey graham and pam bondi today, the effort is to delegitimize the process, to suggest that this is somehow a hoax, it s not even a real impeachment. we only get one shot at this
