Don Hightower disappeared a year ago after leaving his sister's house to go home. Now officials say they believe they found the missing Georgia man's remains after a deer hunter discovered his vehicle off a highway.

A hunter found the remains in Laurens County, Georgia The tag on the car came back to a person named Don Hightower. He has been missing for nearly a year.

The remains were taken to the state crime lab for identification.

EAST DUBLIN, Ga. (AP) — Georgia authorities on Saturday may have found the remains of a man missing a year. Laurens County Sheriff Larry Dean said a deer hunter late Friday found a vehicle registered to Don Hightower off a highway between East Dublin and Wrightsville.

Sheriff's Office and GBI are still investigating the case.

In a Facebook post, the Johnson County Sheriff wrote they've requested help from the GBI office multiple times and were denied.
