Conservative slates appeared to be defeated in Oswego, Barrington and elsewhere but some candidates in other suburbs scored victories.

A slate of candidates that ran as Educational Excellence for D99 was successful Tuesday night in the race for three seats on the school board for Downers Grove-based Community High School District 99.

The wife of Community High School Board District 99 Board of Education candidate Ken Dawson was recently hired by the district.

She said her decision to run was inspired in part by the memory of her daughter Gwen, who died in June.
