Jurors Award $23.1 Million to Man Shot by Deputy in Florida

Broward schools forged a path to give $26 million to the victims of the Parkland shooting — turning a negligence case into a civil-rights dispute, newly released documents reveal.

Deputy Adams Lin claimed during the trial that he thought Dontrell Stephens was reaching for a gun, when he shot the man as he rode his bike across traffic. While Stephens was awarded $22 million, he wound up getting $6 million.
