As we take a look at our radar, the storms continue. That means more mild air gets into eastern iowa and after a start with snow in the morning, well change over the rain in a lot of spots during the afternoon except the far northern and western counties. Snow will stay tomorrow evening. Up mere the minnesota border, there could be up to 10 inches of snow. The two inch line close to cedar rapids. That could go up or down an inch or so. One things for sure. The further south and oois you go, the lower the snow totals will be. We do have winter storm warnings. This is highway 20 on to the north. A blizzard warning in north in south eastern iowa, no Winter Weather advisories in effect. This all gets underway late tonight. It looks like our Winter Weather is still a ways off and wont impact caucus goers but city workers are already out getting the roads ready. We spoke with cedar rapids streets superintendent manager mike duffy who says crews have already been out putting down salt brine on major roads, bridges and intersections to help keep ice from sticking to the pavement. Crews will be out all night and once the snow starts to fall and they switch over to clearing those roads its important to give them space to work. Board members have been talking about a solution for the last year. One says this decision benefits the entire county and state. Our number one resource in iowa is the topsoil and a lot of its flowing away. Reporter the Johnson County board is not changes ordinances. The regulations are staying the same but theyre expanding the importance of maintaining sensitive areas. In most of iowa last summer, you couldnt swim in any body of water whether it was a lake, stream, river. They were all contaminated and thats a pretty scary thought. The county says the ordinance will apply to all developmentsincluding sub divisions of three lots or less. Its going to ensure that undisturbed or if they are disturbed, they will be mitigated.
