it s brought construction construction work to a grinding halt. mornings on 2 begins right now. good morning. i m dave clark. i m tori campbell. police plan on removing hundreds, thousandses, possibly, of maurb plants. it all unfolded around 3:30 it morning atth and ohio when firefighters received a call about a fire. tara moriarty is live at the scene where police are working on a ure knit. reporter: good afternoon. this was quite a sophisticated growing operation. we re told hundreds and hundreds of plants are inside, if not a thousand. they were all tipped off because of a fire here. joining me live is a member from the richmond fire d. who made the call? the individual calling for the calling and watching for watching the area. she heardle dogs whining. reporter: firefighters say this was probably an electrical fire. can you explain that? yes, there is a lot of electricity running through the building so some of that started the fire. her on 6th an
evacuations are taking place. reporter: just up the road from where i m standing in a three story apartment building is a man barricaded inside. he has indeed fired off at least 13 rounds at officers, this all happens on post street, in the 800 block of post. you can see that here all the way to levenworth is now blocked off. i m told officers are trying to talk with this suspect. in fact, he is a man wanted in connection with that homicide that we reported last night on the 10:00 news. the woman found dead inside her home. the search for that suspect evidently led officials to that apartment building here on post street. i m told that suspect armed with a handgun started firing again at officers. and that at least one officer returned fire. i m ailed told that building also told that that building has been evacuated and other buildings on post street have been evacuated. i m also told the suspect has lit his apartment on fire. we have seen fire engines rushed to the area
santa clara housing development where several three-story homes under construction were wiped out. claudine? reporter: well, it may be a while before those residents are allowed back in. you can see the damage behind me this morning and the people who are still not being allowed in are in the neighboring buildings but firefighters say there s still a lot of work to be done. in the meantime, the residents are being allowed back here and they are telling us how terrifying it was as they ran to safety. this fire broke out at around 10:00 near el camino and scott street. it took about an hour for firefighters to get it under control. at its height, flames were shooting 100 feet in the area. this woman was asleep when the fire broke out and within minutes was running from her home with her newborn, 12-year- old son and husband as she and her neighbors tried to get away from those huge flames. i was dead asleep and my husband heard two explosions and he looked out the window an
