A much loved poet, novelist and musician, Zephaniah remained true to the idealistic and angry concerns of his youth, opposing empire and all forms of oppression.

Zephaniah's works often denounced the system, but he also became a familiar face in mainstream culture, including a role on the series 'Peaky Blinders.'

"Benjamins wife was by his side throughout and was with him when he passed," a statement read.
