According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, roughly 37 people in the United States die in drunk-driving crashes every day. With summertime activities on the rise, it is important to remember that driving under the influence is not only a crime, but it is incredibly dangerous and can be deadly.

(Journal file photo) Niles police are ramping up their July 4 traffic enforcement with officer overtime between Friday, June 16 and Wednesday, July 5 for the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, Drive High Get a DUI” traffic safety campaign. The safety campaign targets impaired drivers and those not wearing seat belts.

Extra patrols will be out looking for those who didnt heed the warning.

With Christmas less than a week away, the roads could be dangerous as the NHTSA warned alcohol-related deaths are "more prevalent during the holidays."
