The Alberta government has formed a new committee to prepare for severe drought in some parts of the province this year.

Alberta is facing an extremely dry winter, raising fears of a destructive wildfire season this summer.

According to provincial statistics, agriculture and irrigation combined amount to 46.6 per cent of Alberta’s water allocations while municipalities make up 12 per cent.
