China bans local mackerel imports - Taipei Times

The Chinese General Administration of Customs yesterday said it found residues of the SARS-CoV-2 virus on the packaging of frozen horse mackerel imported from Taiwan. It is the second such claim Beijing made this month. China on June 10 said that imports of beltfish from a Taiwanese company would be banned for one week, as the virus had been detected on the packaging of the company’s frozen white ribbon fish. The Council of Agriculture (COA) at the time called on Chinese authorities to present scientific evidence to support its claim. China yesterday said that imports from the company that packaged the frozen horse

Approval of faulty COVID-19 test kits dubious: KMT

The Chinese Nationalist Party (KMT) caucus yesterday demanded that Minister of Health and Welfare Chen Shih-chung (陳時中), who heads the Central Epidemic Command Center, and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Director-General Wu Shou-mei (吳秀梅) resign over flawed COVID-19 rapid test kits that entered the commercial market. Flowflex COVID-19 Antigen Home Tests imported by Safeway OA Supply Co Ltd (大鑫資訊) were recalled on Wednesday, as the importer allegedly illegally purchased subpar kits from China and sold them as US-made products. KMT caucus whip William Tseng (曾銘宗) at a news conference yesterday said that he noticed “red flags” regarding the Flowflex test kit after

Council says virus risk from packaging low

The Council of Agriculture yesterday said that food packaging does not pose a significant COVID-19 risk after Bejing imposed a temporary ban on a Taiwanese frozen seafood company, claiming it found SARS-CoV-2 on packages of frozen fish. The comment came hours after China’s Taiwan Affairs Office spokesman Ma Xiaoguang (馬曉光) told a news briefing that a week-long import ban had been imposed on chilled and frozen fish from Keelung-based Peitu Frozen Foods Corp (北都冷凍食品工業). The ban was promulgated on Friday last week after SARS-CoV-2 was detected on the packaging of several items, Ma said. More stringent genetic testing protocols are to be implemented
