The St. Landry Parish School Board is set to select an interim Superintendent, as the board continues its search for a permanent replacement.

Board members voted April 6 to purchase the days remaining on Patrick Jenkinss contract, a decision that effectively ended his role as superintendent

Superintendent Patrick Jenkins said that state revenues are expected to provide the $167,000 in projected costs over a five-year period.

The St. Landry Parish School District had a 49% truancy rate during the 2020-21 school years.

Statistics indicate that St. Landry Parish public schools have a potential truancy problem that officials hope to correct with state grant funding.

Discussions for the athletic coordinator and truancy officer position will continue when the board convenes for a regular meeting scheduled Thursday.

Child Welfare and Attendance Supervisor Dwanetta Scott said, “I sometimes feel as though I need to clone myself two or three times.”
