A man who was trying to slow traffic in his neighborhood because deer were crossing the street was shot and killed by another man who was driving past, authorities in western Washington state said.

A Washington man was fatally shot while trying to help deer cross the road, authorities said.

The 22-year-old suspect told police he was “scared” when he fired a single shot, fatally striking Dan Spaeth, 37, outside his home.
