The board of East Alton Wood River High School has adjusted its grading scale for the remainder of the school year. The board voted unanimously to change the “D” grading scale from a 69-64, with anything below 64 previously a failing grade, to 69-60.
District Superintendent John Pearson says he is hopeful the new scale is a motivator for students who are struggling to know that that they can still pass an exam, or assignment, with a 60-percent. He said many students are struggling with on-line learning this semester and is hopeful this will be a motivation to some to work hard as they close out the month.

WOOD RIVER A special meeting of the East Alton Wood River High School Board is planned via teleconference at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 15.
The board will hear from the Illinois Association of School Board Association Executive Search Committee regarding the district’s upcoming search to replace Dr. John Pearson who is retiring next year.

EAWR principal honored for work

WOOD RIVER Leigh Robinson, principal of East Alton-Wood River High School, has been named the Southwest Division Secondary Principal of the Year for the Illinois Principals Association.
“Initially I was shocked because I didn’t know I was nominated for the award,” Robinson said. “After the shock I was very thankful.”
Robinson is a 1995 graduate of Eastern Illinois University who received her master’s degree in Educational Administration from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville in 2001. While earning her master’s degree, she started at EAWR as a business education teacher, a position she held from 1995 to 2003. She then served as EAWR Assistant Principal from 2003 to 2009, becoming principal in 2009.
