S-Nitrosylation of ACE2 inhibits binding of SARS-CoV-2 spike protein

In a recent study posted to the bioRxiv* preprint server, researchers developed aminoadamantane nitrates compounds that inhibit the ion channels formed by the envelope (E) protein of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) and enable targeted drug delivery of nitric oxide (NO)-related group for S-nitrosylation of host angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), which would inhibit ACE2 binding with the viral spike (S) protein and thereby inhibit viral replication in the host.
