Ecumenical Formation News Today

Applications are open for an Asian Ecumenical Institute organized by the World Council of Churches (WCC) Regional Ecumenical Theological Institute and the Christian Conference of Asia. The deadline is 10 June.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) Commission on Education and Ecumenical Formation held its second meeting on 2 May, focusing on the relevance of theological education for churches and the ecumenical movement.

The World Council of Churches (WCC) has made new staff appointments during 2024, including three new commission directors. WCC general secretary Rev. Prof. Dr Jerry Pillay warmly greeted them as they began to serve in their particular ministries.

The World Council of Churches (WCC), with the Laudato Si’ Movement and other partners, will cohost a seminar in Assisi, Italy, on 15-16 March. Entitled "The Feast of Creation and the Mystery of Creation: Ecumenism, Theology, Liturgy, and Signs of the Times in Dialogue,” the event aims to deepen the collective understanding and appreciation of the Feast of Creation, observed on 1 September.

Twenty-four students and seven teachers from the Focolare Movement joined the World Council of Churches (WCC) for Ash Wednesday prayer services, and for an introduction to the ecumenical movement. 

The smiles of students graduating from the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey picking up their credentials showed they experienced something unique that will bind them as they return to their different corners of the world.

On 5 December, the World Council of Churches (WCC) signed a “2050Today” charter that commits to reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The Geneva-based 2025Today is a climate action forum where institutions of Geneva come together and commit to reducing their greenhouse gas emissions.

Dies Academicus at the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey on 25 October brought 33 students from 21 countries together under the theme "Pilgrimage of Justice, Reconciliation, and Unity.”  The study day first engaged with the World Council of Churches (WCC) pilgrimage experience between the 10th and 11th assemblies, touching upon pilgrim visits, theological reflections within the WCC, and collaborative efforts with churches and ecumenical partners.
