Sudan’s Emergency Lawyers reported that the authorities launched an extensive detention campaign against activists in Khartoum and El Gezira on Thursday last week. On Monday, more people were detained, most of them in the popular neighbourhoods of Burri in eastern Khartoum, and Ed Deim, south of central Khartoum.

The Central Committee of Sudanese Doctors (CCSD) reported the death of protester, during yesterday’s surprise March of the Millions demonstrations in Khartoum North (Bahri), originally scheduled for today.

The fact-finding committee in Sudan that will investigate the violence used against protesters during the March of Millions on January 17, says that it has sent weapons issued to troops on that day for forensic examination, and calls upon witnesses to step forward with evidence.

Seven demonstrators were shot dead on Monday, during the January 17 March of Millions bound for the Republican Palace in Khartoum. These deaths sparked a call from the Executive Office to the Forces for Freedom and Change (FCC), to launch a comprehensive two-day campaign of civil disobedience starting today, condemning yesterday’s massacre.
