Home-improvement giant Lowe’s and online home-goods retailer Wayfair will occupy two massive logistics buildings under construction in East Hartford, various sources have confirmed to the Hartford Business Journal. Massachusetts-based National Development bought 300 acres at the former Rentschler Field airport site from Raytheon Technologies in a $78.47-million deal sealed in January.

With a major municipal review completed, East Hartford officials are hoping to see construction begin on the redevelopment of Rentschler Field as soon as this fall.

East Hartford's Planning and Zoning Commission on Wednesday unanimously approved two applications on a planned development of a 300-acre site on the former Rentschler field. Boston-based National Development filed applications for a zone change to facilitate its master plan for the site, which includes two warehouse buildings totaling 2.5 million square feet and two 100,000-square-foot buildings for high-tech manufacturing and research and development.
