A sale is pending for a historic downtown Brainerd building.

A look through the Brainerd Dispatch archives with Terry McCollough combing the microfilm for tidbits of history through the decades going back to 1924.

While he sold the building, Menk’s business will continue to be a mainstay of downtown Brainerd in the iconic building that has been associated with him for 30 some years.

The extra staff person, if approved, would clear sidewalks in the downtown area and be responsible for landscaping and parks maintenance in the warmer months.

“I think what we have right now is not full-blown revitalization. Certainly, I don’t think it’s where everybody wants it to be, but I think what we have right now is an ember. The ember is glowing, but it’s fragile," Brainerd Lakes Chamber of Commerce President Matt Killian said.
