About 300 people gathered at an Annapolis hotel ballroom Thursday night to signal their opposition to the project, which has been in the works for 35 years.

The signees of the letter were Forks of the Patuxent Improvement Association, Woodwardville Preservation Society, Greater Crofton Council and Crofton First, all of which are opposed to the Chesapeake Terrace Rubble landfill, which Halle Companies has sought to build along Patuxtent Road for decades.

Haire received about $90,000 from businesses listed at the address of Halle Companies, a developer connected to various projects around the county, including a proposed landfill in Odenton.

Every weekend from the spring until the fall there is a miles-long backup on Route 50 with folks trying to get to the Atlantic beaches like Ocean City and Rehoboth. Folks sit in traffic for hours.
