A shop in downtown Windsor that illegally sells magic mushroom products has been raided by police for a third time.

Despite the two raids conducted by Windsor police’s Drugs and Guns Unit, the FunGuyz location in downtown Windsor remains open. Why? A company spokesperson says it's because they "battle through adversity".

Flying in the face of local law enforcement agencies, a chain of illegal brick-and-mortar magic mushroom dispensaries with locations in London, Windsor, and across the province is expanding to more local municipalities.

It was the second time in a month that Windsor police shut down FunGuyz, only for the store to almost immediately reopen.

Several communities in southwestern Ontario have seen illegal magic mushroom stores opening and challenging the current status quo on the fungus, but one expert says that doesn’t necessarily mean magic mushrooms are on the path to legalization.

Montreal police on Tuesday raided a store selling illegal magic mushrooms and arrested four people, but a spokesperson for the shop said he expected it to reopen within 24 hours.

Company spokesperson Edgras Goban says FunGuyz has already been the target of police raids in Ontario, where it has 10 franchises

The FunGuyz store opened on Tuesday, offering pills, dried fungi and chocolate bars all containing the psychedelic agent psilocybin, subject to sale and possession bans in Canada.

A company spokesperson says FunGuyz is a form of protest to challenge public policy surrounding hallucinogenic drugs.

The FunGuyz magic mushroom dispensary in Montreal did not reopen on Wednesday, but the stores owners plan on reopening soon despite police raiding the location and arresting four people.
