University President Peter Salovey told the News that before stepping down from the role this summer, he hopes to close in on the $7 billion fundraising goal of Yale’s ongoing capital campaign and to increase both University-wide financial aid as well as Yale’s financial contribution to New Haven.

Howard Lamar GRD ’51 — former University president, Yale College dean and history professor — was remembered for his study of the American west, community-oriented leadership philosophy and role as a loving father in a memorial service on Saturday.

He also served as dean of Columbia Law School and helped start two for-profit private school ventures.
