Seen here as a bakery called Sandall’s, the building was finally used as a handyman’s shop before being demolished in 1970 to make way for a car park. The hotel was renamed after Queen Victorias visit. Credit: Gary Stone Originally known as the Forest Hotel when it first opened in 1880 in Chingford, it was renamed the Royal Forest Hotel in 1882 after Queen Victoria’s visit to Epping Forest to dedicate it to the people. The hotel catered for the hordes of visitors to the Forest by train from the newly opened Chingford Station.
