The upkeep of land within SA Navy premises has been criticised, with people living near navy compounds describing the areas as devoid of crucial firebreaks.

The blaze, high up on the slopes of Glencairn Ridge near Seemeeu Road, was burning since about 9am on Friday morning.

The latest fire follows a blaze in the same area three weeks ago which spread rapidly and took five days to get under control.

Megan Davids the spokeswoman for the Emergency Medical Services(EMS) confirmed the incident.

The fire started in her son’s backroom shack before it swallowed the entire family house.

“My whole life was in that shack”

The citys Fire and Rescue Services Edward Bosch said that their hard work paid off.

Strand police are investigating a case of culpable homicide after a child pedestrian was fatally injured in an accident on Monday (19 September).
The incident occurred around 16:00 when the boy was struck down on Main Road in Strand near the thoroughfare under the N2 bridge.
