Daytona Beachs Juneteenth celebration provided a day full of fun and a chance to learn about the painful history of slavery in the United States.

The event included a re-enactment of the first public reading of Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation on the very spot it took place 158 years ago.

Emancipation came a month earlier than Juneteenth for Civil War-era Black Floridians.

Black Floridians are celebrating May 20th as Emancipation Day, when a Union general officially declared Florida's enslaved people were free.

The concert is free and will start at 7 p.m. May 19 in Cascades Park Adderley Amphitheater.

Since going on hiatus in 2020 and 2021 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Daytona Beachs Juneteenth celebration has returned and is growing.

In the waning days of the Civil War, a hodgepodge of green troops got their first taste of action.

Juneteenth festivities are returning to Daytona Beach for the first time in three years. The banquet is June 16, and the family festival is June 18.
