Groups want to ban ejiao, a substance rendered from boiled donkey hides and used in a variety of foods and drinks, because surging demand is devastating both man and beast.

The Ejiao Act (H.R. 6021) would prohibit the transport, sale, and purchase of ejiao products, as well as donkeys and donkey hides for the production of ejiao.

Rep. Don Beyer is standing up for donkeys everywhere and trying to save their hides. Last Tuesday, the Congressman re-introduced legislation that would effectively ban the sale and trade of donkey-hide gelatin, otherwise known as ejiao.
