The remaining 95 West Darfur detainees, among them 15 minors, held in Port Sudan Prison resumed their hunger strike. Lawyer Nafeesa Hajar called on the international community to intervene instead of “ignoring the issue of the West Darfur detainees”. Hajar, a member of the West and North Darfur Detainees Defence Team, accused the authorities of violating the law in a press conference at the Teiba Press hall in Khartoum on Monday.

57 illegally detained Darfuris have been released after embarking on an open-ended hunger strike earlier this month. At least 163 are still held in prisons throughout Sudan. 14 detainees released from Port Sudan Prison arrived in Khartoum on Sunday evening.

The Defence Committee of Detainees in North Darfur stated that a Darfur detainee with tuberculosis in El Huda Prison in Omdurman, has suffered severe mental health issues as a result of maltreatment and insufficient medical attention.

The Darfur Bar Association (DBA) announced that 350 Darfuris are illegally detained in prisons throughout Sudan. This figure includes 12 minors. All were detained without any legal justification, mostly by infamous the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

African Centre for Justice and Peace Studies (ACJPS) expressed its deep concerns over the continued violation of human rights by law enforcers in Sudan, especially in West Darfur. The organisation highlights various examples of killings, detentions, illegitimate use of the Emergency Law, and other rights abuses, often involving the Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

A delegation from the Darfur Bar Association, Emergency Lawyers, and partners visited El Huda Prison in Omdurman on Wednesday afternoon, to speak to detainees from El Geneina in Darfur.
