A female Asian elephant died Friday at the St. Louis Zoo, shortly after a small dog got loose and ran toward her herd.

Rani the elephant died at the age of 27 on Friday at the St. Louis Zoo after a small dog ran around unleashed. It is unclear how she died but she did have preexisting heart issues.
