A series of seed grants from the Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses has provided Penn State campus leaders with the support to implement transformative initiatives and best practices that have been successful at other University campuses.

Emelio Betances, a professor of sociology and Latin American studies at Gettysburg College, will lead a lecture at Penn State Hazleton on Tuesday, Sept. 20, in Room 115 of the Evelyn Graham Academic Building as part of the campus’ celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.

With a rise in the Hispanic population in the communities surrounding Penn State Hazleton, the campus has taken on numerous efforts to meet the needs of Spanish-speaking students and their families.

Elizabeth J. Wright, associate dean of academic affairs in Penn State’s Office of the Vice President for Commonwealth Campuses and director of academic affairs at Penn State Hazleton, has been named chancellor at Penn State Hazleton. Wright will officially assume her new role on July 1, succeeding Gary M. Lawler, who is retiring after 15 years of dedicated service to Penn State.
