An intrepid and steadfast abolitionist, Ellen Garrison stood for the rights and dignity of her fellow Black Americans. Surely it is apt that the town of Thoreau and Emerson honor her legacy.

The effort to name a new middle school after Ellen Garrison, an acclaimed Black educator, has roiled the town.

Despite a groundswell of Concord support, the School Committee has resisted calls from the community to rename the state-of-the-art middle school for Garrison.

Residents of Concord who want to see the new middle school named in honor of a Black civil rights heroine bring their case to a community-wide vote.

Republicans had censured Reps. Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger for being part of the January 6 House select committee, mainly composed of Democrats, that is currently investigating the events of the Capitol attack.
