Near-record cold temperatures prompted a new record for power demand Wednesday as the region braces for more winter weather and brutally cold temperatures through the weekend.

On behalf of the Tennessee Valley Authority, Murray Electric Systems is asking their customers to reduce any unnecessary power consumption in order to avoid power disruptions.

"Any power disruptions directly associated with TVA’s directive were intended to cause power interruptions of only 30 minutes or less," TVA said.

There are currently now only about 350 customers without power.
