Close encounters of a different kind draw hordes of foreign visitors to Japan at this time of year.

NAGASAKI--A group of experts discussing ways to rid the world of nuclear weapons ended two days of talks here without reaching specific agreement in part due to differences over the merits of deterrence and the importance of a nuclear ban treaty.

PORTLAND, Oregon--Atomic bomb survivors sometimes met with indifference when they recounted their experiences during a two-week tour in the United States but recalibrated their approach to better connect with Americans.

Citizens that include atomic bomb survivors are traveling to New York to advocate for a world without nuclear weapons at a meeting of signatories of a nuclear ban treaty.

Chiyoko Iwanaga was 9 years old and living in Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945, when she saw two airplanes in the sky above her and then was hit by a flash and blast.
