Environment Canada Warning News Today

Despite being hit with our fair share of snow over the weekend, Montreal is now anticipating even more snowfall and the possibility of freezing rain. In fact, Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for the Greater Montreal Area.

Environment Canada has quietly debuted a new weather alert map that displays active advisories, watches and warnings. Unlike the old map, a still, white image with provincial and regional boundaries traced in black, the new map is interactive, allowing users to zoom in on their area, identify individual towns, cities and major roadways, and click on colour-coded alerts to view important weather information.

As Montreal continues to face cold and icy conditions, it appears as if several regions across Quebec are dealing with far more grim weather. Environment Canada has issued snowfall and freezing rain warnings for nearly 20 areas in southern Quebec.

Environment Canada has issued a snow squall warning for Montreal as the incoming cold front sweeps through the province. The alert was released at 8:00 p.m. on February 2 and is also currently in effect for the Lava area, Longueuil (Varennes area), and Châteauguay (La Prairie area).

On December 31 at 11:30 a.m., Environment Canada issued a weather advisory for Montreal stating that "widespread fog is expected." The fog advisory is currently in effect for the areas of Montreal Island, Châteauguay - La Prairie, Longueuil - Varennes and Laval.

Happy holidays, Montreal! After 20 centimetres of snow last week, we're officially having a white Christmas — but it's going to be one heck of a windy one, too. At 4:45 a.m. on December 25, Environment Canada issued a blowing snow advisory for the Montreal Island area, Longueuil (Varennes area), Laval and Châteauguay (La Prairie area), which is expected to cause poor visibility in snow and blowing snow in some locations.

Although Quebec was hit with up to 20 centimetres of snow in the last week, it appears as if winter's rage is coming in full force as snowfall, strong winds and freezing rain are all expected across the province of Quebec beginning Thursday evening.

Montreal received a large amount of rain over the last two days, causing flooding across many parts of the city, including Square-Victoria–OACI metro station. The storm may have come and gone over the 514, but seven regions across Quebec are still under a mix of weather warnings by Environment Canada, including rainfall, wind and storm surge alerts.

As if we werent suffering enough from the bitter cold and semi-lockdown, Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement as winter storm approaches Quebec. The system could dump as many as 25 cm of snow on parts of the province, including Montreal, through Monday, according to the federal weather agency. The Weather Network, meanwhile, says totals could reach 30 cm.
