Learn how to select the best timing devices, focusing on Crystal and MEMS Oscillators, for engineering applications.

Clocks are integral to most electronic systems. Timing and communications systems need extremely accurate clocks. When I started working with electronics, in the heyday of Citizen’s Band (CB) radio, quartz crystals were on sale everywhere, even at Radio Shack. The CB crystals congregated around 27 and 28 MHz, but many more frequencies were on offer.…

Breakthrough Performance and Reliability of the Endura Epoch Platform Addresses Precision Timing Issues for Aerospace and Defense ...

As I wrote in a recent blog, not knowing all the stuff I don’t know didn’t come easy. I’ve had to read a lot of books to get where I am today. This was in the context of a recently published book by Lawrence M. K. Krauss: The Known Unknowns: A Brief Account of What…

5G: SiTime takes a different approach, using a technology called a micro-electromechanical system that is manufactured more like a computer chip. That has helped it shrink the size of timing devices, prompting customers such as to use SiTime chips in its Dojo supercomputer system.

SiTime has used MEMS instead of quartz crystals to make an oven-controlled oscillator with ±1ppb frequency stability and ±0.02ppb/°C frequency slope - all

The SiTime Epoch Platform targets datacenter and network infrastructure equipment, where ultra-precision timing is paramount to maintain high network throughput.
