Justice N Satish Kumar passed the interim injunction on a civil suit filed by current AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi L Palaniswami.

The Madras High Court issued notice to expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam (OPS) asking him to respond to a civil suit filed by the current general secretary of the party and political rival, Edappadi K Palaniswami.

The Supreme Court on Thursday upheld a Madras High Court order allowing K Palaniswami to continue as interim general secretary of the AIADMK, establishing his position as the single, supreme leader of the party. -- aaa

The Court also said that its interim order passed on July 6 last year, which stayed a High Court order restraining amendment to the AIADMK by-laws, would be made permanent.

Justice G Jayachandran last week had ordered maintenance of status-quo ante. This order had stripped Edapaddi Palaniswami from the post of interim general secretary of the party.

Raveendranath, AIADMKs Lok Sabha MP from Theni constituency, and Jeyapradeep, both of whom are sons of OPS and a former Minister, Vellamandi N Natarajan were expelled by AIADMK interim general secretary K Palaniswami. 

The party is witnessing a power tussle between O Panneerselvam and Edappadi K Palaniswami, who wants to get rid of dual leadership.
