THE acting head of the Albay Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) reported that there were no casualties from the eruption of Mayon Volcano, but evacuation centers were nearing their capacity level.

The current state of unrest of Mayon Volcano in Albay is similar to its eruption in 2014, but a violent eruption still cannot be ruled out, Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology director Teresito Bacolcol said yesterday.

The slow unrest at Mayon Volcano may mean that the volcanic activity could persist for a longer time and could take up to months to quiet down, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said yesterday.

Some 15,000 folk who fled their homes around the rumbling Mayon Volcano in Albay may have to remain in temporary shelters for months.
