gentlemen, thoughts on the night? so far from the exit polling polling the results we have the good night for republicans not the stupendous earthquake of a night in which they would be not only able to win house seats up into the 90 s and win all the close senate races it looks like a very good night but not yet a stupendous night. bret: joe? too early to tell. rick vouchner west virginia starting to look like that could be a problem for democrats. i will say that some of the senate seats look a lot closer at this point. so wait through the night and see how it goes. bret: juan? independence clearly right now are winging to the republican side. that does signal you are going to see a good result especially in the house we will see how that translates into the senate in terms of turnout which everyone said was key or ground game. what we are seeing is there are more older white people turning out to vote, again, good sign for the republicans. bret: okay, karl. 30 seconds.
36% said the president was not a factor. another question, many americans have had it with the federal government. 26% said they re angry. 47% dissatisfied. that is nearly three quarters of americans unhappy with the federal government. 21% satisfied. 3% said enthusiastic. a lot of anger and dissatisfaction with the healthcare law passed by democrats as well. what should the new congress do? 48% said repeal it. 31% expand it. 16% said leave it as is. how about this and what we are seeing early? panel, stephen hayes, stand stand. quisten power kirsten powers for new york post. and juan williams, fox news contributor and brit hume of fox news. welcome. brit, we ll start with you. the question that you see the answer to in the exit polling is consistent with what we have been seeing in the polling all through this fall. the big question tonight has been whether you are going to have a solid republican night,
probably end up winning in west virginia, both of those are toss ups. if there is a wave, they get there. shepard: that wave, is it your sense we will know when polls start to close on the east coast, and we could have some idea as we begin to get exit polling data in the afternoon. reporter: as the person in charge of exit polling in 2006 and 2004, it did not go so well. i am very leery. i know we will report on it but it is a matter of which people decide to actually talk to the pollsters as they exit. i m very leery but i want do see actual votes. west virginia, you took that away from us because you take the goodies, it will be key. if manchin holds on to the senate seat, the robert byrd seat of auto-plus years, then the republicans probably cannot get senate. if raese takes it all bets are
is forecasting. bret: we have been burned by the exit polling in the past and they re not complete. there are different waves of commit polls as we continue throughout the night. as you look at the numbers, the first race. first and foremost if you look at who is turning out to vote, it looks like a good omen for republicans. i will say this as a caution to the viewers. that if you look at the black vote right now, hispanic vote, it s on average with any mid-term election. it s not specific to this one. to compare against 2008 would be fair. with young people however, it is fair. and there you do see the enthusiasm coming from the younger voters. when you look at the referendum issue on president obama, as you cited as the first poll, it s interesting because you only get 36% saying he was not a factor. and overwhelmingly 38% oppose.
pickup 10 votes in order to take the majority in the senate. i can also push over here on the map of the u.s., and we can watch the polls closing. house races, governor s races. you mentioned a few of the senate races now. this is what is critical. you just called ohio, rob portman now, wins that race over lee fisher. based on some of the exit polling we have got. rob portman did not have much of a challenge in that race tonight. the governor s race appears to be a different matter. also at 7:00. 35 minutes ago. fox news calling this the tea party candidate rand paul in what appears to be rather easy victory over the democrat jack conway. the board has numbers the following way. 54% to 46%. they could change the rout tonight somewhat. rand paul again with that victory. 7:30 in the east coast, shepard. want to point out the senate race in west virginia. this is a great one. joe manchin the democratic governor very popular in a tight race against the republican john raese. if democrats,
